Most of the earthquakes tend to happen geologically and geographically. Geographically , where to plates meet. I think they mostly happen in that area because its an edge of plate tectonics that slides past, towards, and away from each other. They mostly occur near the pacific ocean. The area is called " The ring of fire". The earthquake closest to Manitou Springs is in Denver, CO. But people would not be able to feel because of the distance and the magnitude of the earthquake. You would not be able to feel this one because the magnitude is not high. Like a magnitude 1 is weak and aa magnitude of like 7 would be much stronger to the point where we could possibly feel a shake.
In this area called "off the coast of Baja California sur." The magnitude is 5.1. This area not much populated. It occurred on Monday, January 19, 2009 at 04:50:47 PM, just about 3 days ago from 1/21/08. When in a earthquake you must know how to stay safe. So one place you could be during an earthquake qould be in a doorway. Also, make sure the family is together and not apart in the house during an earthquake.
